Suraj Kumar

Artist Suraj Kumar hails from Palamu district in Jharkhand. He uses acrylic glass as his medium and his sole focus has been the human figure. Through his work he often tries to question the herd mentality of the common man, by showing figures painted bright red, all of them in similar numb postures.

“The public blindly follows a leader, be it a politician, a godman or an activist. Most of them are not able to differentiate between right and wrong and instead chose to follow without thinking,” says the artist.

According to him, the consequence of such blatant ignorance is that demagogues are able to rule. His luminous painted figures in primary colours are often shown serving their duties or functions, as if controlled by a greater power and hence is a take on the state of the common man in search of a livelihood in a megapolis.
