Manish Sharma is born in Bikaner, Rajasthan, known for its cultural heritage. Apart from completing his MFA from Jaipur University, he was also trained in the intricate techniques of miniature paintings, which in earlier times played a key role in documenting events and histories. This early and rigorous training in miniature techniques became an important tool for him and played an important role in the development of his artistic language. In his work, drawings play a very prominent part along with narrative. Through his drawings he tries to explore the complex relationships between the artist, his society and his surroundings.
Manish feels lost and is overcome with a sense of nostalgia when the shape of ones’ neighborhood or city is altered, when landmarks are destroyed under the pretext of progress and globalization. There is a feeling of loss, which he tries to project through his works.
