Son of an army brigadier, JJ Valaya, had a penchant for painting and drawing as a child. JJ Valaya set out on his journey into the world of fashion at a time when the profession was hardly taken seriously. Today, he is unarguably one of the best among the pioneering group of contemporary Indian fashion designers.

"Photography for me is my art. My interest has been around for as long as my fashion career but the decision to introduce myself as a fine art photographer was taken only in 2011. Essentially, this is my alter ego at play”, says Valaya.

He is a self-taught photographer but a natural artist. The technicalities of cameras and photography still continue to baffle him. His favorites subjects are portraiture and architecture, people and spaces.
